Ya Mon--- Jamaican No-Kill Animal Shelter to Wants to Partner with AnimalWork

Today I got an email from Maureen Sheridan, who runs The Animal House Jamaica, inquiring about a partnership with AnimalWOrk. The Animal House is one of only two animal shelters in Jamaica. Located in Ocho Rios on the northern coast of the island, the Animal House takes in stray, injured, and abused animals and provides them with food, shelter, medical care (including spay/neuter), and most importantly, LOVE. It's a no-kill facility, and they believe in finding homes for all of their animals, one by one. This is an extraordinary place, and will hopefully become one of the fabulous animal-friendly organizations that benefits from AnimalWork.org.

I'd like to end with a quote posted on the Animal House website:

"If you pick up a starving dog and make him prosperous, he will not bite you. That is the principal difference between a dog and a man." -Mark Twain

Exploring Non-Profit Partnerships

Over the past few days, at the advice of Christine from Ebullient French Bulldogs in Austin, I have been researching the guidelines of partnering with animal-friendly non-profits. Since there are so many organizations out there, it is imperative fully investigate potential partners before committing to a relationship.

I have identified 5 requirements of a non-profit organization in order to qualify for a partnership with AnimalWork:
  1. Vision & Mission: Organizations must be striving to ultimately make this world a safer and friendlier place for animals.
  2. Policies & Procedures: Must be geared at achieving the organization's goals.
  3. Approach: Must have a proactive and dynamic approach concerning animal issues and emerging concerns.
  4. Financial Efficiency: Must utilize resources in a most efficient manner and allocate funds among programs appropriately (Charity Navigator is a great place to research this.)
  5. Tax Requirements: Must have tax-exempt status under section 501(c) of the Internal Revenue Code.
I will releasing a fully-detailed newsletter for non-profits interesting in partnering with AnimalWork.org shorty.

In the mean time...

If you know of any exemplary animal rights or rescue organizations that we should connect with, please let me know! Leave organization names as a comment to this post, or contact me directly at: miry@animalwork.org.
